《魔法纪录 魔法少女小圆外传》故事发生在新兴都市「神浜市」，由于奇怪的力量这座城市不断吸引着魔法少女们在此汇集，为了寻找妹妹的而来到神浜市魔法少女「环伊吕波」，将会和其他魔法少女们一起探索隐藏在这座城市背后的真相。
在地下音乐界有点知名度的女生乐团两人组合“ハルレオ(harureo)”。Haru（門脇麦饰）和Reo（小松菜奈饰）两人为了各自发展，而决定解散。他们找来外援志摩（成田凌饰）一起做全国巡演。但是在路上Reo喜欢上志摩，志摩却喜欢上Haru。而其实Haru对Reo有着友情以上的感觉…。
曾志伟一向以拍摄轻松喜剧出名，这次竟然转变风格，改走火爆动作路线。本片并得新加坡政府协助，全片在新加坡实地取景拍摄，并把宁静的新加坡弄得天翻地覆。
