《梦幻西游》改编自同名网游，以《西游记》为故事背景，但却跳脱出师徒四人西天取经的传统故事，而是创造了人仙魔三界的奇幻时空，塑造了极富个性的众多角色，可谓是一部“另类西游”。此次唐人影视打造的同名作品更是大胆创新，讲述了一群游戏高手因为游戏中的一个bug，而被卷入到了虚拟与现实交叠的危机之中的故事。
